Do Not Consume Notice - Wicklow · Laragh Annamoe Public Water Supply

Effective Date of Do Not Consume Notice: 27th March 2026 Due to high sodium and chloride (salt) levels, the drinking water quality entering part of the Laragh Annamoe PWS has been affected. As a result, and following consultation with the Health Service Executive, Uisce Éireann are issuing a Do Not Consume Notice with immediate effect to protect the health of certain groups of consumers: If you or any other residents in your property fall within the below two categories, please contact the Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre: 1800 278 278 and we will arrange an alternative water supply. 1. Babies who are formula-fed • Do not use Raheen Well water to make infant formula or to prepare food for babies. • Please use bottled water that is provided or use an alternative safe water source. 2. People on a strict low-sodium (salt-restricted) diet. This includes people with conditions such as: • High blood pressure (hypertension) • Kidney disease • Certain heart conditions This notice applies to the above groups of consumers supplied by the Raheen Well WTP. IMPORTANT: This is not a Boil Water Notice, i.e. boiling and cooling your water will not make it safe to drink. The above groups of consumers affected by this notice must not drink their water. For individuals not in the above groups, the water may still be used as normal for drinking and cooking, but you may notice a salty taste. If you or any other residents in your property are impacted, please contact the Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre: 1800 278 278 and we will arrange alternative water supply. A map of the Laragh Annamoe Public Water Supply, detailing the areas affected, is available on www.water.ie and is also included in this notice. Areas Affected: All customers supplied by the Raheen Well WTP- see map/website. 1: Water must not be used for: • Drinking • Preparing Drinks made with water • Preparation of salads and similar foods, which are not cooked prior to eating • Brushing of teeth and/or gargling • Making of ice. However, ensure you first discard all existing ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges 2: You may use your water for the following: • Personal hygiene, baths and showers • Flushing of toilets • Watering plants and flower 3: Caution: • Domestic water filters will not render water safe to drink • Caution should be taken when bathing children to ensure that they do not swallow the bathing water • Discard ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges. • If you have pets and are concerned about the impact of providing mains water while this Do Not Consume Notice is in place, you should ask your local vet for advice 4: Only use Prepared/ Bottled Water for the following situations. • When preparing foods that will not be cooked (e.g. washing and preparing salads) • Preparing Infant Formula. Where a Do Not Consume Notice is in place, you can prepare infant formula from bottled water. All bottled water, with the exception of natural mineral water, is regulated to the same standard as drinking water. It is best not to use bottled water labelled as ‘Natural Mineral Water’ as it can have high levels of sodium (salt) and other minerals, although it rarely does. ‘Natural Mineral Water’ can be used if no other water is available, for as short a time as possible, as it is important to keep babies hydrated. If bottled water is used to make up infant formula it should be boiled once (rolling boil for 1 minute), and cooled in the normal way. Readyto-use formula that does not need added water can also be used. 5: Always Take Care: If you are boiling bottled water to prepare infant formula, care should be taken with boiled water to avoid burns and scalds. Accidents can easily happen, especially with children. 6: How long before the Do Not Consume notice can be lifted? We do not know at present, but Uisce Éireann will continue to liaise and consult with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting the Do Not Consume Notice asdetails
