Roderic O’Conor believed in art for art’s sake and, unlike most artists, he could afford to live the dream. During his lifetime, he must have been the envy of many. He studied hard, worked productively, and lived frugally. The quality of his work was excellent and he was highly regarded by his peers. He exhibited his paintings, but did not need to sell them. O’Conor didn’t like art dealers and he didn’t play the game.
