Tanya Sweeney: Journalism might have slipped down the CAO most-wanted list, but it is still a worthwhile career
I admit that I was slightly flattered by the invitation: would I care to come to a school and talk to the senior cycle students about my job in journalism? When I was their age, I’d thought of journalism as almost too lofty a dream, like putting ‘Oscar-winning actor’ or ‘actual royalty’ down on your CAO form. It was a job that implied adventure, intrigue and, crucially, a living wage.
