A campaign of "persistent and distressing" phone calls targeting female councillors has been described as "deeply upsetting" after the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) said female elected representatives across the political spectrum had been subjected to repeated anonymous calls containing disturbing and inappropriate sexual comments.
