When it comes to lunchtime in France, if you haven’t bagged yourself a table by the time the clock strikes noon, you’re on a sticky wicket. Rocking up, delighted with yourself, at 1.30pm to some little bistro you’ve spied, will see you left out in the cold while the smug locals occupying the tables will look at you pityingly as service is wrapped up.
