Keeping a close watch on the authenticity of Titanic memorabilia

John Jacob Astor IV had more than one pocket watch, but only one of them was on the Titanic. The American businessman (1864-1912) was the richest and most famous person on board the Belfast-made vessel. When it struck an iceberg, Astor went down with the ship. His body was recovered a few days later with some personal effects. They included one gold pocket watch.
