John Boyne: ‘No one writes to win prizes, but we all need a clap on the back sometimes’

In the spring of 2007, I bought my first tuxedo. My novel, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, had been shortlisted for three prizes at the second annual Irish Book Awards, which was held in Trinity College.
