Jackie McGregor: Is it just me? Why do tradesmen never call when they say they will?

I whipped open my curtains to the sight of several inches of builder’s bottom leaning over a car boot next door. I was filled with envy. Why couldn’t I be hosting displays of tradesman’s bottom around my home? What was I doing wrong?
