Family of Kerry Olympian Tom O’Riordan to gift his All Ireland Schools gold medal to Tralee CBS
As the 2026 post-primary schools’ athletics season gets underway, there is a rare anniversary to be celebrated. An All-Ireland medal won 70 years ago could be on its way to Kerry after a long sojourn in Dublin. The gold medal was won by Tom O’Riordan, future Olympian, in the senior mile at the All-Ireland Colleges track and field championships in May 1956 in Ballinasloe, Co Galway. It has been in Dublin since the late Tom moved there seven years after winning the event.
