Micheál Martin says the world wants an end to hostilities and for “normality to break out again”. With that phrase he showed the ability of a canny leader to express, simply, a yearning in people that people may not even have articulated clearly to themselves. But when you hear the phrase, you realise, “Yes, that’s what this unsettling feeling in all of us is. We want normality to break out again”.
