The Australian government’s social media ban on under-16s is a bad idea that almost certainly won’t work. But it’s a fascinating experiment that fairly punishes big tech’s cynical, cash-grabbing ambivalence towards monetising kids. The reason it won’t work is that 15 year olds will simply use virtual private networks (VPNs) to get around it.
